Use the data

Population data tools

Answer specific age-structure questions without downloading a spreadsheet or writing code.

Custom cohort lens

Age-group calculator

Choose any five-year age range, country, and available year. See its population, share, and male/female split.

Side by side

Country comparison

Compare two pyramids and eight demographic measures on one page.

Choose the right tool

From a broad shape to a specific cohort

Compare composition

Use the country comparison when you need to see whether two populations are youthful, ageing, or shaped by particular adult cohorts. Both charts share a percentage scale.

Measure a custom age range

Use the age-group calculator for questions such as ages 5–19, 20–34, 65+, or 80+. It returns counts and shares without estimating from the chart.

Check change over time

Open a country profile to switch among eight age structures from 1950 to 2100 and connect them to population, fertility, longevity, and growth.

Data coverage

Both tools use the same 237 country and area profiles from UN World Population Prospects 2024. Age distributions are available for 1950, 1975, 2000, 2023, 2026, 2050, 2075, and 2100.

Years through 2023 are historical estimates. Later years use the UN medium projection. Values are loaded only when a tool needs them, keeping the rest of the site fast.

What the tools do not do

They do not provide single-year-of-age interpolation, probabilistic intervals, subnational populations, or live census counts. Use the official UN portal for the full scenario set and formal extraction.
