Definition
The population sex ratio is the number of males of all ages per 100 females. A value above 100 indicates more males; below 100 indicates more females. It is not the sex ratio at birth.
2026 medium projection
Compare the overall numerical balance between males and females, then open each pyramid to see how that balance changes across age groups.
The UN series provides historical estimates through 2023. Figures from 2024 onward—including 2026—are medium-scenario projections, not counts or predictions guaranteed to occur.

The population sex ratio is the number of males of all ages per 100 females. A value above 100 indicates more males; below 100 indicates more females. It is not the sex ratio at birth.
An overall ratio can reflect differences in survival, the age structure inherited from past births, and sex-selective migration. Age-specific bars show whether an imbalance is concentrated among workers, children, or older adults.
The ratio records population counts by the male/female categories in the source data; it does not measure gender identity. The pyramid shows the pattern but cannot by itself establish its cause.
Qatar leads with 243.7, while Palau is at rank 10 with 116.2. At the other end of the complete table, Hong Kong has 81.7.
Those positions describe this particular indicator, definition, and reference period. They do not imply that every country near the top has the same population pyramid or demographic path. Open the profiles to compare the underlying cohorts.
Qatar ranks first in this comparison with 243.7. The table uses 2026 medium projection from UN World Population Prospects 2024.
In World Population Prospects 2024, historical estimates run through 2023 and values from 2024 onward are projections. The peak-year table labels historical and projected results separately.
