Jack Müller

Editor, World Population Pyramid

Jack Müller writes the site’s guides and country analyses, maintains the pipeline that turns UN World Population Prospects files into charts and tables, and reviews every change to the page templates.

How the writing is done

Every guide and country analysis starts from the published data rather than from a narrative. Claims about a cohort are checked against the five-year age bands, birth years are worked out from the chart year, and figures quoted in the text are traced back to the UN medium scenario or to a named statistical office.

Where historians or demographers disagree about a cause, the text says so. Where a chart cannot settle a question on its own, such as how much of a bulge comes from births and how much from migration, the text says that too. The editorial and corrections policy sets out these standards in full, and the methodology documents every calculation.
